Veterinary Resources

Family Veterinary Center is aware of the vast amount of information available online, this is why our team has taken the time to evaluate the following sites to provide you with the most credible and up-to-date information from leading veterinary professionals and organizations. We trust the information the listed websites provide to you, our client, and member of our family.

***Animal Poison Control*** :The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) is your best resource for any animal poison-related emergency, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If you think your pet may have ingested a potentially poisonous substance, call (888) 426-4435.

First Aid Tips for Pet OwnersAlways remember that any first aid administered to your pet should be followed by immediate veterinary care. First aid care is not a substitute for veterinary care, but it may save your pet's life until it receives veterinary treatment.

Microchip Look-up Search Tool: Found a lost pet and want to look up their microchip information? Know your pet is microchipped but can't remember the manufacturer or how to update your information attached to the chip? Start by doing a basic search for the chip number. This registry lookup tool does NOT provide pet owner information, but is a helpful tool to get you started

American Animal Hospital Association : AAHA is respected internationally for its dedication to professional development, hospital accreditation standards, and quality educational programs.

American Board of Veterinary Practitioners: The American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) is one of twenty-two AVMA-recognized veterinary specialty organizations comprising 40 distinct specialties. ABVP is a leader in the veterinary industry, committed to preserving the food chain and protecting the human-animal bond, and is the only board-certifying body that offers certification in the care of TOTAL patient.

American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine: The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(6) organization dedicated to improving the lives of animals and people through education, training and certification of specialists in veterinary internal medicine, discovery and dissemination of new medical knowledge, and increasing public awareness of advances in veterinary medical care.

American Kennel Club: For more than 130 years, the American Kennel Club has been the country’s leading authority on all things dogs, acting as the premier resource for dog lovers, from the fancier to the everyday owner. Along with our affiliated organizations, we encourage dogs as family companions; advance canine health and well-being; advocate for dog owner rights; and educate the public about responsible dog ownership.

American Veterinary Medical Association: The mission of the Association is to lead the profession by advocating for our members, and advancing the science and practice of veterinary medicine to improve animal and human health.

Finding a veterinary specialist: A board-certified veterinary specialist's expertise complements that of your animal's primary care veterinarian. You may be referred to a board-certified veterinary specialist if diagnosing or treating your pet's health problem requires specialized equipment and/or expertise that your animal's primary care veterinarian does not have. It's critical you, your veterinarian, and board-certified veterinary specialist communicate and work together to provide the best care for your pet.

Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges: The AAVMC represents the global academic veterinary medical community. AAVMC members promote and protect the health and wellbeing of people, animals and the environment by advancing the veterinary medical profession and preparing new generations of veterinarians to meet the evolving needs of a changing world.

Clean Run: Agility Information:  "We provide a variety of unique, high-quality products for people who are active in canine performance sports as well as for the dogs—things that you generally won't find in the "big box" stores. Before we add a product to the store, both our human and canine office staff tests the item for usability and quality. If we wouldn't use it ourselves, we won't sell it."

Traveling With Your Pets: Pet medical emergencies don't just happen at home. A few simple steps can better prepare you to help your pet with first aid treatment while you are traveling.

Dog Bite Prevention: Dog bite victims requiring medical attention in the United States number approximately 800,000 annually. Fortunately, there are ways to prevent dog bites.

Potentially Dangerous Items For Your Pet: We all know to childproof our homes to keep young children safe, but what about “pet proofing” our homes too? Many edible and non-edible dangers for your pet may exist in or around your home. Knowing about these dangers can help you make your home a safer place for your pet.
